Aerobics for Education: MIDCT, Social Welfare Office Launch Fundraiser to Keep Students in School2/14/2025 By Ephraim Mkali Banda
In a bid to keep underprivileged students in school, the Mzimba Institute for Development Communications Trust (MIDCT) and the Mzimba South Social Welfare Office have partnered to host an Education Support Fundraising Aerobics Challenge on March 1, 2025. The event aims to raise funds for at least 20 secondary school students struggling to afford tuition and essential learning materials. The two organizations have formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscoring their shared commitment to supporting education. Christopher Melele, Executive Director of MIDCT, described the initiative as more than just a fitness event. "This is a movement to empower young minds by ensuring they stay in school. Every step, every move, and every contribution count toward a better future for our students," he said. Mzimba South Social Welfare Officer Bernard Nangwele echoed his sentiments, emphasizing the role of the community in bridging educational gaps. "Education is a fundamental right, yet many students in Mzimba South are forced to drop out due to financial struggles. This fundraiser is a brilliant way to engage the community in making education accessible to all," he stated. Organizers are calling on individuals, businesses, and organizations to participate by joining the aerobics challenge or making financial contributions. They believe the event will not only promote physical well-being but also foster a sense of collective responsibility in ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial hardships. With education being a key driver of development, the initiative is expected to make a tangible impact by keeping vulnerable students in school and empowering them to achieve their academic goals.
